This will be a very busy and exciting year for your 8th Grader as your child prepares to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in 2025. The information below will summarize your child's Confirmation requirements. We will be updating any future Confirmation information on this page, and we will continue to use email and Flocknote communications to keep you up-to-date. We hope this information will help clarify what to expect and keep everyone organized and on track.
A mandatory meeting has been scheduled for September 25th at 7:30pm in the IHM Church. Please be sure your child and one parent are in attendance. Information regarding your child's Confirmation will be provided at that time.
An important part of our faith, and a responsibility of every practicing Catholic, is to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days. Confirmation students are required to attend Mass beginning September 22. The process for tracking Mass Attendance and Mass Slips will be handed out in class to all 8th-grade students. Each IHM Confirmation Candidate must sign and return theConfirmation Candidate Agreement. Due the week of September 30, 2024. Thus is an agreement to complete, on time, the requirements necessary to be prepared to receive the Holy Spirit freely and knowingly in the Sacrament of Confirmation on Friday, May 30, 2025. Attend and complete the following:
Attend Religious Education classes regularly. I will be respectful of the Catechist and my fellow students and I will participate in class to the best of my ability.
Attend Sunday Mass weekly, receive the Holy Eucharist and hand in Mass attendance cards. Please review the Confirmation Candidate Mass Attendance Requirement.
Participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation regularly
Attend the Confirmation Retreat on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 9:30am in the school auditorium. Attendance by the Confirmand and one parent or the Sponsor is mandatory.
Attend the Chrism Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. Candidate will receive 3 service hours for attending the Mass
Participate in the Confirmation Rehearsal on May 22, 2025, at 3:30 pm or 5:00 pm. Student & Sponsor or Parent.

Confirmation Candidate letter to Monsignor Sweeneyexplaining why you want and feel ready to be confirmed. It should include a paragraph containing information about the saint. (Due the week of November 18, 2024)
IHM Certificate of Sponsorship: Each student must choose a person to be his/her Sponsor according to the guidelines provided. A Sponsor must complete anIHM Certificate of Sponsorship and have it signed by a priest in the Sponsor's home parish.(Due the week of January 13, 2025)
Sponsor Letter:A letter to your sponsor explaining why you chose your sponsor. It will be given to your sponsor on your Confirmation Day. (Due the week of January 13, 2025)
Confirmation Service Hours and Reflection pageEach Confirmation Candidate is required to complete 20 hours of service. Service Hours should reflect Community Service, Spiritual Works of Mercy and Corporal Works of Mercy. They should consist of the following: 10 hours of community service, 5 hours of spiritual works of mercy and 5 hours of corporal works of mercy. All service must be done on a voluntary basis. Students must keep track of the service projects and record them on the sheet provided. (Due the week of January 13, 2025)
